Only a few months remain now until the Chicago Bulls could continue to reshape their roster under the direction of executive VP of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley. The Bulls are in the back half of their regular season schedule and are still hoping to contend for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference down the stretch.
First-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Bulls saw their roster get significantly upgraded with more of a win now mentality in store after the trade deadline. They landed key players such as star big man Nikola Vucevic, forward Al-Farouq Aminu, center Daniel Theis, and small forward Troy Brown Jr.
It all started on deadline day with Karnisovas and the Bulls snagging Vucevic and Aminu from the Orlando Magic in exchange for two first round draft picks, third-year center Wendell Carter Jr., and veteran small forward Otto Porter Jr. And that was just the first of a few big deals that the Bulls new front office made on March 25.
Additional hauls for the Chicago Bulls at the deadline
They also landed Theis and shooting guard Javonte Green from the Boston Celtics for a return of center Luke Kornet and big man Mo Wagner (who they flipped from the Washington Wizards on deadline day). Then, the final notable trade of the day involved the Bulls snagging Brown Jr. from the Wizards in exchange for what would be third-year small forward Chandler Hutchison and second-year center Daniel Gafford.
Hopefully, all of these additions to the Bulls roster will start to mesh soon. They could snap a two-game skid since the deadline against the Phoenix Suns on the road on March 31.
But the real goal ahead for the Bulls’ new front office will be assembling a roster that can contend in the East next season. Here’s a look ahead at early offseason targets for the Bulls to continue upgrading the roster via the trade and free agent market.
