Chicago Bulls: Coby White to miss first career game with neck injury
On the night of March 29, first-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls are getting set to take on a tough Golden State Warriors team and head coach Steve Kerr. The Bulls and Warriors are two teams vying for playoff positioning in their respective conferences. But the difference is that one team could be without their top player due to injury in this game.
Superstar Warriors point guard Stephen Curry could be out this game due to injury, but he might also not be the only guard out on this night. The Bulls could be missing the likes of the second-year former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Coby White against the Warriors on March 29 due to a reported neck injury.
More specifically, the 21-year-old North Carolina native White is dealing with “muscle spasms in his neck” that will keep him out against the Warriors. He reportedly tried to go through warm-ups but didn’t wind up being ready to go.
What the Chicago Bulls are missing with Coby White out?
It was a few weeks back that Donovan moved White back to come off the bench in favor of combo guard Tomas Satoransky. White hasn’t started in a single game post-All-Star Break. But his absence does leave a void in terms of offensive spark coming off the Bulls bench.
White is one of the best volume scorers on the entire Bulls roster, giving him a niche role in the team’s second unit. On a good night, White can be a catalyst to help the Bulls really get going on the offensive end of the floor.
In his absence, the likes of point guard Ryan Arcidiacono and maybe even rookie Devon Dotson. The Bulls could also get more playing time among the two guards to the likes of Denzel Valentine and the recently acquired Javonte Green.
This will be the first career game that White has missed. Prior to this outing against the Warriors, White had played in 44 games for the Bulls this season. And he’s averaged 15.0 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks. White shot 40.9 percent from the field, 35.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 89.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Donovan and the Bulls come into this road meeting with the Warriors with a record of 19-25 following their double-digit loss to the San Antonio Spurs from back on March 27. Tip-off against the Warriors will come at 9 p.m. CT in the Bay Area on March 29.
