Chicago Bulls Point Guard Fits: Dennis Schroder, Los Angeles Lakers

Another Los Angeles Laker comes in one spot ahead of his current teammate. This time, it’s Lakers starting point guard Dennis Schroder. While he may end up back with the Lakers, they haven’t been able to agree on an extension since acquiring him via trade in the offseason. If the Lakers don’t give Schroder the money he desires the Bulls would be wise to see what it would take to lure him to the Windy City.

Schroder fits the timetable of the Bulls at 27 years old and has proven to be an impact player in the league. After a slow start to his career, a fourth-year breakout during the 2016-17 season has led to years of proving his versatility and capability. He’s competing for a ring this season and is on his way to a nice payday this offseason.

Labeled ‘Dennis the Menace’ by some, Schroder’s nickname fits his game. A 6’7.75 wingspan helps Schroder wreak havoc in passing lanes and allows him to frustrate opposing guards. When engaged on that end of the floor he can change a game for his team. That defensive upside would be perfect for the Bulls moving forward.

Offensively, Schroder is a good player that has played in a number of different roles and proven to be effective in each of them. Twice in his career he averaged over six assists per game, both coming with the Atlanta Hawks. Those years saw him put up 6.3 and 6.2 assists.

He proved to be a great scorer in his time with the Thunder after the Hawks. Last season in Oklahoma City he put up 18.9 points per game off the bench. This year with the Lakers he has proven capable of playing alongside two featured players in LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The Bulls could add Schroder and become a very good offensive team while improving on defense at the same time. His scoring ability would give the Bulls a trio of very good scorers at their position and the team could then look to fill their rotation with the right players to support those three.
