Chicago Bulls 5th best trade asset: Garrett Temple

The Chicago Bulls signed Garrett Temple to a one-year contract in free agency this past offseason in one of the few roster changes made by Arturas Karnisovas after taking over the team. The addition of Temple was viewed as a great locker room addition for the Bulls in addition to the solid play he offers on the court.

Temple has not only met expectations but exceeded them thanks to his on-court production. Entering the year he was not guaranteed to see consistent minutes, but he quickly proved himself as deserving of a spot in the rotation and Billy Donovan has rightfully given him one. In fact, he was Donovan’s choice to fill in as a starter multiple times throughout the season.

His statistics don’t leap off the board and truthfully were never going to. It’s everything he brings to the floor that doesn’t show up in the box score and how he helps his team win games that makes him hold value for teams around the league.

Contenders would be smart to inquire on the veteran wing for additional depth heading into the playoffs. He is a high I.Q. player that knows how to play off the ball effectively. Additionally, he brings value as both a defender and spot-up shooter, both things that playoff teams can never have enough of.

He checks all the boxes of what a team wants in a bench player. While Temple isn’t going to go out and shut down the league’s best players for 48 minutes, he can offer relief to a team’s best defender and give a handful of effective minutes guarding scorers at multiple positions. That, combined with his ability to fit in offensively and hit open shots, makes him an asset to playoff-caliber teams.
