One of the biggest emerging needs for the Chicago Bulls at this point of the season to to give more support to first-year head coach Billy Donovan in the entire rotation lies at the point guard position. The Bulls made it clear their need for more stability in the backcourt rotation in their last couple of losses, which last came at the hands of the Denver Nuggets at home on March 1.

Donovan and the Bulls are actually getting more consistency and efficient production of late from combo guard/wing Tomas Satoransky off the bench than from second-year point guard Coby White. Star shooting guard Zach LaVine also frequently assumes the primary ball handling duties over White and/or Sato.

But what should the Bulls do to plug the gap at the point guard position, and take some of the creating pressure off of the likes of LaVine, veteran forward Thaddeus Young, shooting guard/wing Denzel Valentine, etc.?

While the hotly debated answer right now for where first-year executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley is on the trade market, free agency is a viable option too. The free agent market could actually be more fruitful this year than normal thanks to shortened rotations and the lack of a full G-League season.

The Bulls might be able to find an answer to their lack of a playmaking point guard problem this year in the form of a floor general that can fill a bench role via the free agent market. If Karnisovas and the Bulls don’t have a solution in mind on the trade market and the aspirations are the playoffs this season, that may be the best way to go.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into four potential playmaking point guard free agent options for the Bulls at this point of the regular season.
