A player that did become more familiar to Chicago Bulls fans last season, 6-foot-5 French shooting guard/wing Adam Mokoka, is still trying to work his way into their 15-man rotation on a night-by-night basis. But at this point in time, Mokoka still has some work to do down in the G-League before earning himself a spot in the Bulls regular 15-man rotation night in and night out.
The next opportunity up for Mokoka to make some headway in the eyes of the Bulls coaching staff and front office, while playing in the G-League, will come with the affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs. The news dropped in the public eye on Feb. 24 that Mokoka would be joining the G-League’s Austin Spurs, to play in the bubble in Orlando, FL.
The Bulls usual G-League affiliate Windy City Bulls elected not to participate in the G-League’s bubble season in Orlando. That leaves any players like Mokoka that could be floating between the NBA Bulls squad and the G-League have to be put on assignment with other team’s affiliates.
Background of Chicago Bulls wing and the G-League Spurs
So far this season, the G-League Spurs hold a record of 6-3, still early in the bubble campaign in Orlando. The G-League Spurs are a mash of young talent trying to make their way into firm NBA rotations in the near future. That includes players like point guard Tre Jones, big man Luka Samanic, and shooting guard Khyri Thomas.
Mokoka will be the lone player on the Bulls roster within the past year that is going to try to make his way on assignment with the Spurs G-League affiliate.
Over the course of the last two NBA seasons, Mokoka has played in bits and pieces of 18 games with the Bulls (none of which he’s started in). And he’s averaged 2.4 points per game, 0.8 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Mokoka shot 40.5 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line.
Mokoka is one of the two Bulls players that owns two-way contract slots at this point of the season. The other is the rookie former Kansas Jayhawks point guard Devon Dotson.
The Chicago Bulls are set to take on the 7-25 Minnesota Timberwolves at home at the United Center on the night of Feb. 24, carrying their own record of 14-16.
