A big opportunity was presented to first-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls on the night of Feb. 20, when they returned home to the United Center to take on the Sacramento Kings. In this home meeting with star point guard De’Aaron Fox and the struggling Kings on Feb. 20,

While the Bulls were favorited heading into this meeting with the Kings, this Western Conference foe did take care of business in the first meeting between these two teams. The Bulls had their chance to even the regular season series this weekend.

The Bulls were hot coming out of the gates, but the Kings held strong in this game until down the stretch in the fourth quarter. Star shooting guard Zach LaVine helped the Bulls to pull away in the end, and claim the win by the final score of 122-114.

A player that should be a first-time NBA All-Star selection in LaVine helped guide his team to the eight-point win over the Kings. LaVine registered a game-high 38 points, to go along with four rebounds, three assists, three steals, no blocks, and three turnovers. And he shot an efficient 15-of-20 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Who else contributed in the Chicago Bulls win

There were also solid outings that the Bulls got from the likes of second-year point guard Coby White, rookie forward Patrick Williams, and veteran forward Thaddeus Young. White gave the Bulls his best outing in a good while, which was a driving force to this win over the Kings.

He registered 19 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. And White shot 6-of-14 from the field, 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Moreover, Williams gave the Bulls a double-double in 35 minutes played in this game. He registered 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steals, and no blocks. Williams shot 5-of-10 from the field, 1-of-3 from beyond the arc, and had no attempts from the free-throw line.

Even Young gave the Bulls 18 points, three rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

This was a full team effort for the Bulls for all 48 minutes, which is something that is great to see out of this Donovan-coached team. The confidence that this rejuvenated team is giving the Bulls fan base is something we never really saw under former head coach Jim Boylen.

Following the win over the Kings, the Bulls now sport a record of 13-16. They have won six of their last nine games, and three of the last four. The Kings have also now lost six games in a row, as they’re really struggling to find good traction of late.

After their win over the Kings, the Bulls are set to take on the Houston Rockets on the road on Feb. 22. They will look to claim a spot in the top eight of the Eastern Conference standings, and continue to trend in the right direction, if they can beat the Rockets early in the week.
