Chicago Bulls: 3 unsuspecting players who could be dealt at deadline
1) Unsuspecting Chicago Bulls who could be traded
Wendell Carter Jr., Center
The third-year former Duke Blue Devils 21-year-old center Wendell Carter Jr. could be an intriguing name if Karnisovas and the Bulls were to openly shop him near the trade deadline. Although it doesn’t look like WCJ is getting openly shopped at the moment, there would be worse players for the Bulls new front office regime to part ways with at the deadline.
It became clear in the Bulls Feb. 19 loss to the Sixers on the road that WCJ has trouble matching up with some of the top big men in the league on either end of the floor. WCJ does bring more versatility and basketball IQ to the table than second-year center Daniel Gafford, but he still doesn’t look like the long-term solution as the starting five for the Bulls rebuild.
Something would have to give for the Bulls to want to keep WCJ around heading into next offseason. Come the start of the 2021-22 season, WCJ will be entering the final year of his rookie contract. This might be the best time to trade him now, while there’s still a good amount of time left for his current contract.
WCJ has started in all 17 games he’s played for so far this season for the Bulls, averaging around 27 minutes on the floor per game. And he’s averaged 13.1 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks. WCJ shot 55.0 percent from the field, 30.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line.
