Chicago Bulls should be buyers and seller before the trade deadline
Where Chicago Bulls can improve
A player we should consider to fill that void would be a Marcus Smart type player. A tough, never back down lock down defender who when he needs to, can score in many different ways. The Bulls could use a vocal voice as well in the locker room to hold this young core accountable. You’d be surprised what a no nonsense player with tenacity can bring to a franchise.
Without a guy to set the tone defensively, the Bulls will continue to lead the league as one of the worst defenses in the league in almost every category. Every team knows the Bulls can score. They also realize all they have to do is keep it close and it’s very easy to close the Bulls out. Just look at all the close games the bulls have lost already this season. Just a few late game stops and the bulls add a few more wins to this under .500 record.
On top of our lack of grit and toughness, the Bulls are lacking a true point guard. Coby White is a solid player, don’t get me wrong. He’s just not a starting point guard yet. He lacks many true point guard skills and there are many other factors that go into this.
Coby is very erratic and tends to play out of control at times. He tends to make poor decisions with his shot selection and often dribbles for 20 seconds to end this sequence with a poor contested jumper or a turnover. He isn’t very vocal either. White lacks the basketball IQ that is needed to command this offense. A more natural playmaking point guard is needed.
Yes, White can score the ball, he can also learn how to become a true point guard over time. The Bulls just don’t have time to wait or the time to waste on this possibility to develop. If the bulls want to start winning it starts with an upgrade at the point guard position.
