One of the more veteran role players for the Chicago Bulls this season is getting things going on and off the court of late. Veteran forward Thaddeus Young is one of the Bulls players that is just involved in business off the court as he is hoops on the court. Young reportedly (originally from the Twitter timeline of Marc Stein) acquired a minority stake in an NBL team in Australia.
This is one of the biggest business dealings reported for Young in his long NBA career to date. The team he will be acquiring a minority stake on for his next big business dealing will be the Brisbane Bullets.
That will apparently re-unite Young with his “former teammate Kevin Martin”. Martin is the Bullets majority owner, which likely led to the foundation being laid to make this deal for Young.
The NBL got a brighter spotlight to NBA fans in the last 18 months or so. With more players passing up on the traditional college route to take their talents overseas and play in the NBL of late, the league is getting a lot more global exposure.
Chicago Bulls’ Thaddeus Young and the NBL background
A few of the highlighting stars in the NBL that played there in the last couple of years are the current Charlotte Hornets rookie point guard LaMelo Ball and Denver Nuggets rookie combo guard RJ Hampton. There’s more than 120 NBL players that played in the NBA at some point during their basketball careers.
Young himself has obviously never played in the NBL, but he has a long NBA career under his belt so far. His NBA career now stems for more than a dozen years. He’s currently in his second year with the Bulls.
In 74 total regular season games played with the Bulls over the course of the last two years, Young averaged 10.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.4 blocks. And he’s shot 46.3 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 58.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Young and the Bulls are currently taking on the Charlotte Hornets on the road at the Spectrum Center on the night of Jan. 22. The Bulls and Hornets both carried a record of 6-8 into that game, with Chicago also boasting a two-game winning streak.
