2) Trade targets Chicago Bulls shouldn’t pass on in 20-21
Finding a way that the Bulls could work out a frontcourt rotation that adds the current Detroit Pistons star power forward Blake Griffin along with power forward Lauri Markkanen and center Wendell Carter Jr. seems nearly impossible. But, just like it would mean if Karnisovas wanted to nab any of the players on this list, the Bulls would likely have to part ways with one of those two.
This 31-year-old sizable 6-foot-9 and 250 pound former Oklahoma Sooners big man only has two years remaining on the life of his current contract. Griffin also has a player option worth just south of $39 million for next season. While that is a sizable contract for a big man that spent most of the 2019-20 regular season injured, it might not be the worst money to take on if the Bulls can get a nice return.
Griffin is also off to a decent start in a potential major bounce back season for him through three games played with the Pistons (all of which he’s started in). Granted he did have to leave the Pistons Dec. 29 game to go through concussion protocol. Hopefully nothing too bad comes of that for Griffin.
Moreover, through the bits and pieces of three games he has played in for the Pistons so far this season, his efficiency has ticked up compared to where it was at last year. And he’s averaged 16.3 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and no blocks. Griffin shot 45.9 percent from the field, an impressive 43.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.
With the way that Griffin is developing his game in recent years, he could be a valuable addition as a modern big man to the Bulls frontcourt rotation.
