5) Chicago Bulls 2021 FA targets ahead of 20-21 season

The only former Bulls player that made this list of potential free agent targets for this team for next offseason is the current Brooklyn Nets standout 27-year-old point guard Spencer Dinwiddie. The lengthy 6-foot-5 and 215 pound former Colorado Buffaloes floor general and undrafted free agent really rose to the occasion with the Nets in the last couple of years.

There were multiple times last season where the Nets got more efficient play at the point guard position out of Dinwiddie than they did their superstar Kyrie Iriving.

During the shortened 2019-20 regular season, Dinwiddie played in 64 games with the Nets (49 of which he started in). And he averaged 20.6 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.3 blocks. Dinwiddie shot 41.5 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

With Kyrie and superstar forward Kevin Durant set to lead the way for the Nets this season, Dinwiddie might be boxed out when he deserves a bigger role. If the Bulls are looking to land a true sixth man or quality starter in their backcourt entering next offseason, then Dinwiddie should be one of the top targets on their board.

If it doesn’t work out for the Bulls rolling with second-year point guard Coby White starting at the one this season, or they don’t want to invest in shooting guard Zach LaVine over the long haul, signing Dinwiddie could be a good insurance policy. He’s a very valid option for the Bulls of all the underrated point guards that could hit free agency next offseason.

Dinwiddie is going to have a player option that he could pick up ahead of the 2021-22 season. But he might be able to cash out while his stock is high and make more than $12 million per year come the next cycle of free agency.
