3) Chicago Bulls 2020 offseason mistakes

Keeping John Paxson on the payroll

To some degree it will be difficult for the Bulls to convince some potential trade/free agent targets in the near future that the culture within this organization is completely changed with Paxson still around in a senior advisor role. The moves to hire Karnisovas and Eversley as the lead voices in this front office were largely lauded around the NBA.

And it was nice to see that the Bulls parted ways with Forman completely. Granted there likely wasn’t a huge role that Forman held within this organization in a good while. He just held that title of general manager while Paxson looked like he made most of the big decisions. Boylen was his hire, and seemed to be a favorite of the previous front office regime.

Not to say that any voice that Paxson has on any decision made is necessarily a bad one. His free agent haul last offseason of the likes of center Luke Kornet, combo guard Tomas Satoransky, and forward Thaddeus Young, looked good at the time. But it didn’t pan out well in the end.

All in all, getting rid of the disfunctional culture that the Bulls had in their organization prior to all of the internal changes made over the offseason means parting ways with both Forman and Paxson. While Forman just landed a job with the New Orleans Pelicans as a special advisor (likely with most of a say in the scouting department), Paxson is still around on the books in the Windy City.
