2) Chicago Bulls Camp free agent targets
Definitely one of the more surprising names that remains on the free agent market as of the evening of Dec. 7 is the former Utah Jazz improving 6-foot-3 and 200 pound point guard Emmanuel Mudiay. The 24-year-old native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo had his best season in the NBA to date last season with the Jazz.
During the shortened 2019-20 regular season, Mudiay played in 54 games with the Jazz (just two of which he started in). And he averaged 7.3 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks. Mudiay shot 46.2 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line.
All of that amounted to .057 win shares per 48 minutes, -1.9 box plus/minus rating, 1.0 total win shares, 54.3 true shooting percentage, 13.0 player efficiency rating, and a 103 offensive rating/111 defensive rating. The progression that Mudiay showed in the last couple of years, between his time playing with the Nuggets and Jazz, also proves that he could be worth a look from the Bulls.
As Mudiay continues to improve his offensive versatility, on-ball defense, and assist-to-turnover ratio, he will also find himself in a more niche role in the NBA. Shooting just shy of 35 percent from downtown was a career high for Mudiay, as was shooting 46.2 percent from the field.
If nothing else, it is worth Karnisovas and the Bulls looking into what Mudiay could bring to the table for them.
