3) Chicago Bulls takeaways from Pat Williams pick

We’ll just have to be patient with this pick

The good news on the front of Bulls fans having to remain patient with the pick of Williams fourth overall in the 2020 draft lottery is that the start of the 2020-21 season is less than six weeks away. We don’t know exactly when the Bulls are set to tip off their 2020-21 regular season schedule, as the NBA will release that in two parts.

But the Bulls do potentially have an add both in on-ball defensive ability and with wing depth after the pick of Williams. There is no questioning the switchability on both ends of the floor, and the one-on-one defending ability of Williams. The Bulls do need more on-ball defensive ability to add to the wing and/or frontcourt rotation beyond the likes of power forward Lauri Markkanen, center Wendell Carter Jr., and small forward Otto Porter Jr.

It was either the Bulls picking Williams fourth in this draft, or the Phoenix Suns taking the former Maryland Terrapins talented sophomore power forward/center Jalen Smith 10th overall that was the biggest reach of all of the top 10 picks. As is the case with Smith and the Suns, Bulls fans are just going to have to wait and see how this Williams pick plays out.

There was a rush of negative reactions to the Bulls picking Williams fourth overall, despite the availability of mainly Avdija and Haliburton. The latter of those two prospects was even still left on the draft board outside of the top 10.

Donovan and Williams could be a really solid match. By all indications, Donovan did really well with forwards like him in OKC, including the likes of Jerami Grant and Nerlens Noel.
