1) Chicago Bulls trades with Mavs for LaVine
The possibility that the New Orleans Pelicans part ways with the veteran standout point guard Jrue Holiday this offseason are starting to look more and more likely the closer we move to draft night next week. With the Pelicans new front office regime around David Griffin and the retooled coaching staff in place, they might not see Holiday as part of their future alongside Zion Williamson.
A team that really needs that solid two-way veteran point guard presence to build around, like the Bulls, would be the perfect team for the Pelicans to get into trade talks with in this scenario. What makes this situation so great for the Bulls and the Mavericks is that the Pelicans are a very good third team to get into talks with.
There’s a lot of moving pieces here. But to break it down, the Bulls get Holiday from the Pelicans and then multiple pieces from the Mavericks. From the Mavericks, they receive Curry, power forward Maxi Kleber, and their two draft picks in this year’s draft. All that the Mavericks receive are center Luke Kornet and LaVine.
What the Pelicans are getting in this trade package is pretty appealing for Griffin. They get WCJ and veteran small forward Otto Porter Jr. from the Bulls. This trade deal has the salary matching working out for all three teams, and each of the parties get a lot of what they’re looking for heading into the 2020-21 season.
