The growing possibility that the Chicago Bulls target a point guard with their first round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft could lead them to LaMelo Ball.
It sounds like the news that a lot of Chicago Bulls fans have waited for during the draft scouting process could be here soon. The Bulls didn’t really have much connection with the consensus top point guard prospect in the 2020 NBA Draft class, LaMelo Ball of the NBL’s Illawarra Hawks. But that could be changing in the very near future.
According to a report from Jonathan Givony of ESPN on Oct. 29, the Bulls could be meeting with Ball in the near future. That would likely come next week. And it sounds like Ball also had a meeting scheduled with the Minnesota Timberwolves this week and has planned meetings with the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets.
Maybe this is just the Bulls doing their due diligence, but there is a lot of discussion going around various NBA fan circles and on social media about how Ball is a really good fit with this team.
While it’s unlikely that Ball falls all the way to fourth overall to the Bulls in the first round of the 2020 draft, there is always the possibility that Arturas Karnisovas could trade up to get him. The Bulls have a chance to take a point guard in the lottery this year, and their two best options are LaMelo and the French 6-foot-4 floor general Killian Hayes.
If the Bulls wanted to pick someone like former Iowa State point guard Tyrese Haliburton or Auburn small forward Isaac Okoro, they could likely do so by trading down further in the lottery. They might not have to give up much to trade up to get a prospect like LaMelo either.
The Bulls have the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft, and the Memphis Grizzlies 44th overall pick in the second round. NBA Draft night 2020 is set to take place on Nov. 18. The Bulls got here by finishing up the 2019-20 season with a record of 22-43 under former head coach Jim Boylen.
