Chicago Bulls: 3 veteran stars to pursue in free agency
2) Chicago Bulls veteran star free agent targets: Mike Conley
Calling the former Memphis Grizzlies long-time stud point guard and the 6-foot-1 and 175 pound 33-year-old Mike Conley a star after his inaugural run with the Utah Jazz might be pretty far fetched. The ex-Ohio State Buckeyes floor general and Fayetteville, AK, native definitely had an inconsistent run during the 2019-20 season in Salt Lake City.
Conley registered the lowest efficiency in a number of the all-encompassing advanced metrics since the 2010-11 season with the Grizzlies, in the campaign that was with the Jazz in 2019-20. He posted a 14.1 player efficiency rating, 0.3 box plus/minus rating, .089 win shares per 48 minutes, 0.8 value over replacement player rating, and 53.7 true shooting percentage during the 2019-20 season with the Jazz.
Moreover, Conley didn’t look to meet the games played requirement during the 2019-20 regular season to make his contract next season fully guaranteed. He is facing an early termination clause from the Jazz in his contract this offseason. If the Jazz and Conley do part ways this offseason, then it could be a nice opportunity for the Bulls to snag him while his stock is low.
Conley played in 47 games during the shortened 2019-20 regular season with the Jazz (41 of which he started in). And he averaged 14.4 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Conley shot 40.9 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.7 percent from the free-throw line.
If the Bulls are still in the market to shore up the backcourt rotation, and add a veteran floor general that could command the starting five at least for a couple of years, then they should look no further than targeting Conley.
