Chicago Bulls: 3 Lakers to pursue in free agency this offseason
3) Lakers free agents for Chicago Bulls to pursue: Markieff Morris
One of the gritty parts of the Lakers roster in the season that was for them that resulted in a title was the 6-foot-8 and 245 pound two-way forward Markieff Morris. This stellar product of the Kansas Jayhawks basketball program spent his 2019-20 season split between the Lakers and the Bulls divisional foe Detroit Pistons.
Morris played 44 regular season games during the 2019-20 campaign with the Pistons and 14 in the regular season with the Lakers (started in 17 between the two teams combined). And Morris played in all 21 games during the playoff run with the Lakers (two of which he started in). Morris averaged 5.9 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks, in those 21 playoff games played. And he shot 44.9 percent from the field, 42.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.
During the regular season, Morris averaged 9.7 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And Morris shot 44.3 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.6 percent from the free-throw line. Morris was a really good floor spacer and versatile shot maker for the Pistons and Lakers during the 2019-20 campaign.
The Bulls could really use that gritty addition to their frontcourt rotation that the likes of Markieff or Marcus Morris (currently with the Los Angeles Clippers) could bring to the table. It would be interesting if the Bulls could land either one of them two. They could use the boost to help move along the likes of power forward Lauri Markkanen and centers Daniel Gafford and Wendell Carter Jr.
