4) Takeaways from Chicago Bulls group scrimmage: LaVine still has hops

We all knew this one, but you don’t always expect athletic players like LaVine to show off all their tools in a scrimmage. Whether for fear of injury, or a desire to save their energy, players normally don’t go all out in scrimmages.

I wouldn’t have held it against LaVine at all if he took it slow in these scrimmages. He is now three years removed from the scary ACL tear he suffered in 2017, and playing in his first taste of action since March, he could’ve easily taken his time to get into the flow of it all.

He didn’t take his time. In his first action with the Bulls since March, LaVine gave it his all. LaVine was aggressive from the jump, driving to the rim and finishing with authority.

LaVine’s game has its flaws, but he made it clear that there is no regression in his athleticism entering his 7th NBA season. He had a really nice showing in the voluntary group workouts, that took place over the course of three weeks through mid-September to early-October, and it’s good to see his game likely still trending up.
