Chicago Bulls starting center: Wendell Carter Jr.
Two of the most promising players in the current young core, as it stands now for the Bulls without including this CP3 trade scenario, are White and former Duke Blue Devils to-be third-year center Wendell Carter Jr. The last two first round lottery draft picks for the Bulls, both also selected seventh overall, have showed flashes of brilliance in small chunks.
But we really have yet to see either WCJ or White come through in a big way over a lengthy span of time. We should be patient with both of these former ACC stars. WCJ should be in a more proficient scheme on both ends of the floor under Donovan, compared to the faulty points of Boylen’s game planning, heading into next season.
And if there’s any way in this scenario that the Bulls can try and make the frontcourt pairing of WCJ and Markkanen work, then they should give it a go. Donovan seemingly would be better at developing this pair of promising big men compared to that of Boylen.
WCJ played in 43 games during the shortened 2019-20 regular season for the Bulls (all of which he started in). In fact all of the 87 regular season games that WCJ played in over the course of his first two years in the NBA he started in. During the 2019-20 campaign, he averaged 11.3 points per game, 9.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.8 blocks. And he shot 53.4 percent from the field, 20.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.
