3) Former Gators the Chicago Bulls should pursue: Dorian Finney-Smith
One of the more underrated three-and-D wings in the NBA at this point in time is the former Gators undrafted free agent and Portsmouth, VA, native Dorian Finney-Smith. This 6-foot-7 and 220 pound 27-year-old forward has spent most of his NBA career to date under head coach Rick Carlisle with the Dallas Mavericks.
All of the regular season games DFS has played in to date did come with the Mavs, since the start of the 2016-17 season. He was truly a gem find in among the 2016 undrafted free agent class in the NBA. And he even got more than 30 regular season starts during his rookie campaign in the NBA.
DFS was coached up by Donovan in all but one season during his time with the Gators. He thrived under Donovan’s direction, but the ex-Thunder head coach was hired by OKC before DFS could finish out his college career. Since making his NBA debut more than three years ago, the role of DFS with the Mavs steadily grew.
In the season that was for the Mavs, DFS played in 71 regular season games (all but three of which he started in). He averaged 9.5 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks. DFS shot a solid 46.6 percent from the field, 37.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line.
There might not be many better options out there for the Bulls if DFS is available for them to add depth behind the likes of veteran small forward Otto Porter Jr. heading into next season.
