2) Chicago Bulls targets in a Thaddeus Young trade: Eric Gordon
About the best that the Bulls could do in any trade deal that would involve a veteran player like Young, with a decently sizable contract, is getting another like himself that would be more beneficial for the team in the near future. The Bulls just might be able to accomplish that feat by getting veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon from the Houston Rockets.
There were some discussions earlier in the year about the Rockets fiddling around with the idea of trading Gordon, among a few of his other teammates. The other Rockets players that seemed to be involved in them perusing different trade options last year included veteran forward PJ Tucker and center Clint Capela.
The Rockets did wind up shipping Capela out in a multiple-team trade that saw him land with the Atlanta Hawks, and they got forward Robert Covington back from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gordon would be an interesting piece that the Bulls could look into trading for. He averaged 14.4 points per game, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, in what was a down season for him by his usual considerations.
Now that the Rockets were bounced by the top-seeded Lakers in the second round of the playoffs this year in a five-game series, they might be looking for how they could take the next step in trying to build around superstar guard James Harden. This team keeps taking a backseat in the Western Conference to competing teams like the Lakers and Golden State Warriors.
Management and the fan base has to be getting impatient. And trading a long-time piece like Gordon might be the way they look to go this coming offseason.
