1) Former NBA coaches that could be Chicago Bulls next HC: Billy Donovan
About the most shocking firing that happened so far this postseason/offseason around the NBA among any head coach was with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now former Thunder head coach Billy Donovan was let go after five seasons in OKC. And he actually did one of the better coaching jobs of any HC in the NBA during the 2019-20 season.
I would say that you rarely see Coach of the Year finalists, or recent award winners, getting canned soon thereafter. But that is a pretty recent trend around the NBA since the turn of the century. Donovan didn’t win the Coach of the Year honors, but he was very close. And deservedly so.
The Thunder were likely the surprise team of the Western Conference, as it took a thrilling seven-game series for the five-seed to be ousted by the four-seed Houston Rockets. They went much further than most anticipated them to, and Donovan and point guard Chris Paul are two parties to thank for that result.
During his five seasons with the Thunder, Donovan finished up with a regular season record of 243-157 (.608 winning percentage) and a playoff record of 18-23 (.439 winning percentage). Once again, a head coach is on this list because of their lack of postseason success at a now former stop. But Donovan does have two National Championships to his name from his long coaching tenure with the Florida Gators basketball program.
