3) Chicago Bulls free agent targets to replace Kris Dunn: Emmanuel Mudiay
Now here me out on this part of the list for any potential Bulls free agent target they could use to replace Dunn if he doesn’t come back beyond this offseason. The former top five NBA Draft pick and Utah Jazz 6-foot-3 and 200 pound point guard Emmanuel Mudiay does have some value that he could bring to the table in the Windy City.
Bringing up the name Mudiay would usually trigger the average NBA fan to think about a draft bust. But Mudiay is steadily improving his game in the last couple of seasons, which is progression that is largely falling under the radar. Where Mudiay is really improving his game in the last season or two is on the defensive end of the floor.
If Mudiay comes along with a cheaper price tag for the Bulls in this cycle of free agency, and they part ways with Dunn, then he is someone the new look front office regime should really look into. Mudiay played in 54 games in the season that was for the Jazz (starting in just two of them). He averaged 7.3 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks.
Mudiay shot a much improved 46.2 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line. That amounted to .057 win shares per 48 minutes, -1.9 box plus/minus rating, value over replacement player rating at zero, and a 54.3 true shooting percentage.
While not all of those advanced metrics look too great, they’re all career-highs for Mudiay. The way Mudiay is trending is fantastic news for whichever team he lands with next. He will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, after signing a one-year minimum contract with the Jazz last year.
