Chicago Bulls: 3 free agents who could replace Kris Dunn
If the Chicago Bulls do ultimately decide to part ways with former Providence and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kris Dunn, who should they replace him with?
Entering the 2020 offseason, the Chicago Bulls don’t have a whole lot of decisions to make in terms of players that are impending free agents for this cycle. About the most significant Bulls player that is set to hit the restricted (or unrestricted) free agent market this offseason is the 6-foot-4 and 205 pound defensive stopper point guard Kris Dunn.
The other free agency decisions that the Bulls will have to make this offseason will involve former Michigan State Spartans 6-foot-4 shooting guard Denzel Valentine, underrated combo guard Shaquille Harrison, and their guys on two-way contracts (namely rookie shooting guard Adam Mokoka). Bringing back someone like Harrison doesn’t have too much risk involved and would make sense for the Bulls. But bringing back someone like Valentine might be more risk than it’s worth.
Somewhere in the middle on the risk spectrum for the Bulls in terms of re-signing their prospective free agent guards this offseason lies the former Providence Friars guard Dunn. For the most part in the season that was for the Bulls, Dunn thrived in his new found role when he came off the bench. Once injuries started to pile up, though, the Bulls had to start him more often.
Dunn played in 51 games during the 2019-20 season, 32 of which he started in. He averaged 7.3 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.0 steals, and 0.3 blocks. Dunn shot 44.4 percent from the field, 25.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 74.1 percent from the free-throw line.
It was the defensive value that Dunn brought to the table that made him so valuable for this team this season. But if the Bulls don’t bring him back, where would they look to find his replacement?
Here’s a look into the three key free agent targets for the Bulls that could replace Dunn if the team parts ways with him this offseason.
