1) Assistants the Chicago Bulls should consider hiring: Ime Udoka
Speaking of that Sixers connection for the Bulls newly hired general manager Eversley, a candidate that immediately comes to mind is their lead assistant coach Ime Udoka. The 6-foot-6 and 215 pound former San Francisco and Portland State shooting guard/forward Udoka played in bits and pieces of eight season in the NBA.
Udoka spent most of his playing days in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs. He’s both played and coached under legendary Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. Udoka also played for the likes of the Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Knicks, and Lakers, in his seven years in the NBA. He averaged 5.2 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 assists, in his NBA career.
The coaching career in the NBA for Udoka began on staff with the Spurs prior to the start of the 2012-13 season. He stuck around with Popovich in San Antonio through the end of the 2018-19 season. Udoka got to see one title won in San Antonio, which came during the 2013-14 season (where Kawhi Leonard won NBA Finals MVP in a series win over LeBron James and the Miami Heat).
Udoka is commonly mentioned as a favorite to land the Bulls head coaching job early in Karnisovas and Eversley’s candidate search. That candidacy should be even more considerate now that former Sixers head coach Brett Brown is out of a job in Philly. Udoka is the Sixers lead assistant coach, but could be finding a head coaching job in the Windy City before too long.
