3) Assistants the Chicago Bulls should consider hiring: Darvin Ham

As far as coaching catapults go for the hotter names among NBA assistants, there’s not much better right now in terms of candidates for the Bulls head coaching job than Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham. The former Texas Tech Red Raiders 6-foot-7 and 220 pound shooting guard/small forward has been around since his professional coaching career began more than a decade ago.

Ham was a true journeyman in the NBA from 1997-2005. He played for six different teams over the course of nine seasons (most of which came with the Bucks and Detroit Pistons). He did spend a good bit of time in the Central Division during his NBA career, also playing for the Indiana Pacers.

Since his coaching career began back in 2008 in the D-League, Ham has also been a journeyman through different coaching ranks. He started his coaching career as an assistant with the New Mexico Thunderbirds ahead of the 2008-09 season. One year later he was promoted to be the Thunderbirds head coach, which was a role he held for just two years.

The first NBA coaching job for Ham came with the Los Angeles Lakers prior to the start of the 2011-12 season. He was on staff as an assistant with the Lakers for just two seasons, before landing his next job with the Atlanta Hawks from 2013-2018. The 47-year-old Michigan native Ham was brought aboard with the Bucks coaching staff for the 2018-19 season, and remained as one of their more significant assistants over the course of the last two seasons.
