Former Chicago Bulls all-time great shooting guard Michael Jordan might soon be passed by LeBron James in field goals missed for his career.

Key stat categories like career points, steals, rebounds, and assists, are just part of what makes the likes of Chicago Bulls legendary shooting guard Michael Jordan and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James some of the all-time greats in the NBA. MJ and LeBron have won a combined nine NBA Championships along with nine MVP’s, 30 All-Star selections, and nine NBA Finals MVP’s.

Jordan is still widely considered to be the greatest player ever in this league, but LeBron might be right in line behind him. It’s still too early to tell where LeBron would fall in this pecking order of all-time greats. If and when the NBA season resumes in the midst of the first and second rounds of the playoffs, LeBron could have a shot at getting his fourth career title (and first with the Lakers).

That would still be a long way away from reaching the mark that Jordan had, with six titles, but LeBron could at least close the gap a bit.

However, there are a lot of statistical areas where LeBron and Jordan are very comparable. Given that they’re both natural scorers in their own right, the career points and total field goal numbers are actually rather similar. Just due to a higher volume games played in his career, LeBron does have around 2,000 more points than Jordan. LeBron ranks third all-time in career points (34,241), and Jordan ranks fifth (32,292).

The Lakers star also ranks one spot higher in all-time career field goals in the NBA than Jordan. They aren’t separated by all that much, but it shows the true volume that they were entrusted to score at. But with that will also come a lot of misses on field goal attempts.

Jordan currently ranks seventh all-time in career field goal misses (12,345). LeBron is just one spot behind him on the list (with 12,300 field goal misses). At the top of the list of all-time career field goal misses in the NBA is fellow Lakers great and shooting guard Kobe Bryant (14,481).

dark. Next. Should Bulls pursue Nate McMillan

The ongoing GOAT debate between Jordan and LeBron will change a bit as the latter of those two winds down his career in the NBA. Getting at least one more title will help LeBron’s case, but matching what MJ did during those dynasty years in the 1990’s with the Bulls is a challenging feat to say the absolute least.
