A notable former member of the Chicago Bulls, star small forward Jimmy Butler, is putting on a show in the first round of the playoffs with the Heat.
The former Chicago Bulls star small forward Jimmy Butler is having a solid run with the Miami Heat so far in their first round playoff matchup against the four-seed Indiana Pacers. The five-seed Heat didn’t have the hottest finish to the regular season, as one of the 22-teams part of the NBA’s restart plan at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.
Butler also missed some time due to injury to finish up the regular season after the restart. But he’s definitely finding his grove come playoff time. The Pacers aren’t able to find an answer for a number of the top weapons for the Heat. The likes of Butler, forward Duncan Robinson, point guard Goran Dragic, and big man Bam Adebayo, among others, is too much for the Pacers to handle with their injuries racking up.
The five-time NBA All-Star selection, two-time All-NBA Team selection, and four-time All-Defensive Team selection, helped push the Heat to gain a 3-0 series lead over the Pacers so far in their first round matchup. In the first three games of the series so far, Butler averaged a career best 24.3 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks.
So far he’s shot 40.9 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.5 percent from the free-throw line. He’s already notched a career-best player efficiency rating in the playoffs of 22.4 thus far, and a 59.3 true shooting percentage.
The solid start to the playoff run for “Jimmy G. Buckets” and the Heat sparked their official team Twitter page to take a shot at his former squad on Aug. 23. The Heat official Twitter page took a jab at Butler’s last team, Philadelphia 76ers, on Sunday afternoon after their four-game series sweep defeat at the hands of the Boston Celtics.
The Heat Twitter page posted Butler’s stats in each of the three playoff games with the Heat thus far in response to any criticism that could come his way from his run with the Sixers last year. What made the playoff run famous for Butler and the Sixers last year was the series-winning shot by superstar forward Kawhi Leonard that pushed the Toronto Raptors onto the Eastern Conference Finals.
Nonetheless, Butler and the Heat have a real shot to make some noise in the playoffs in the East. It appears that they have all but locked down the first round series win (potentially a sweep) over the Pacers.
The next game up for Butler and the Heat comes on Aug. 24, in game four against the Pacers. They’ll have a shot to move on and face likely either the Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, or the Celtics in the second round.
