Poor shooting for the Chicago Bulls was one of the key drives to why they finished up the 2019-20 regular season with just a .338 winning percentage.
Although they definitely had a high volume of looks from beyond the arc this season, the Chicago Bulls were one of the least efficient shooting teams in the NBA during the 2019-20 campaign prior to the novel coronavirus pandemic-mandate pause. The Bulls saw their poor shooting efficiency in the season that was result in a poor showing in the win column too.
They finished up the 2019-20 regular season through 65 games (prior to the pause) with a record of 22-43. That was good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings at the pause. And it didn’t get them into the 22-team NBA season restart plan at the bubble in Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.
However, the bad result in the win column for the Bulls during the third year of the rebuild did give way to pretty significant changes within the organization. The Bulls have now changed the front office from the top-down, and now former head coach Jim Boylen is out of his position. Maybe better results with their shooting percentages could be on the way.
In the season that was for the Bulls, they ranked 11th in the NBA in three-point attempts per game, 16th in field goal attempts per game, and 12th in three-point attempt rate. But they ranked 22nd in the NBA in three-point shooting percentage (34.8) and 26th in field goal percentage (44.7). They even weren’t that good from the charity stripe when they were able to get there. The Bulls ranked 21st in the NBA in free-throw percentage (75.5).
Where can the Bulls look to improve both with their shot selection and shooting efficiency starting this offseason? A good place to start would be identifying some of their least efficient shooters from last season. Here’s a look into three that stick out in this regard.
