2. Mike D’Antoni

This really starts the portion of the list with real home run hire-type candidates if the Bulls got them to be their next head coach. The current Rockets head coaching Mike D’Antoni would be a tremendously different change of pace if the Bulls were able to hire him.

One route exists for D’Antoni to land with another team than the Rockets next season as it stands now. If the two parties aren’t able to come to an agreement on contract terms this offseason, then D’Antoni could be finding a home with a new team heading into the 2020-21 season. There supposedly could be another falling out between the two parties, depending on how things shake out in the playoffs this year.

But the Bulls shouldn’t really count on D’Antoni being a realistic target for their coaching search, just a name to keep in the back of their mind if he somehow does come available. Apparently D’Antoni landing with the Pelicans, since they parted ways with their now former head coach Alvin Gentry, isn’t out of the question at this point in time.

If the Pelicans are able to make a pitch for D’Antoni, then the Bulls should be able to do much of the same. They don’t have the same appealing young core that the Pelicans do, with rookie forward Zion Williamson and star forward Brandon Ingram, but the Bulls are a bigger market team with a rejuvenated front office and more traditional success throughout the franchise’s history. There could be a pitch here if the Rockets don’t come to a new agreement with D’Antoni once the season is over.
