1. Coby White has a better shot at becoming the face of the franchise

There’s just little to no chance at this point that a LaVine-led Bulls team is going to take this group to the heights of true contention in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls do have a very solid piece in the starting five with LaVine at the two guard, but he likely won’t become the superstar that he sometimes look like he could become.

LaVine does have the athletic ability, tough-shot making ability, and length necessary to be one of the best two-way shooting guards in the NBA. Arguably, he is already one of the best shooting guards in the East. But he gets lulled to sleep too often off-ball on defense, takes way too difficult shots instead of finding his open teammates, and relies too heavily on his athleticism in transition and offense at certain times.

Those flaws in LaVine’s game should continue to get worked out, but it could take time. And it could cost him valuable seasons in what should be the prime years of his NBA career. This does mean that the Bulls might have a better chance of someone like rookie point guard Coby White or second-year center Wendell Carter Jr. to become the next face of the franchise over LaVine.

White had an up and down rookie campaign, but he was red hot near the end of the 2019-20 regular season. And WCJ was red hot out of the gates and has the potential to become one of the better two-way centers in the NBA.

But it feels like the days of the thought of the two faces of the Bulls franchise becoming LaVine and power forward Lauri Markkanen are well behind us.
