If the Bulls were going to take on the contract of power forward Julius Randle from the Knicks to ship LaVine off to the Big Apple, it would take a couple of draft picks to get the deal done. The Bulls aren’t just going to send off LaVine to the Knicks for a player that might not mesh with the current frontcourt rotation.
Something that could get them to budge, though, would be shipping off two unprotected first round draft picks that would be likely to come pretty high up in the lottery. Imagine if the Bulls were able to get two of the next three or four first round draft picks of the Knicks. If that included theirs in 2020, it would really help the Bulls rebuild.
They might have the chance to get two of the likes of potent prospects in this draft class like shooting guard Anthony Edwards, point guard LaMelo Ball, wing Deni Avdija, center James Wiseman, etc.
However, this would all depend on how much the Knicks were willing to give up to both get off the money of Randle while acquiring a better player in the process and how much they have invested in their future first round picks. The Knicks have shipped off a load of draft picks to get a rising star player before, and this in theory could work again.
If the Bulls were willing to take a pretty dramatic adjustment to the current roster construction, then this deal could theoretically work for them too. This deal would be made with the emphasis on stacking future draft capital to give a new jolt to this rebuild, not necessarily to make a push for contention any faster.
