3. Thaddeus Young, Forward

There was already a lot of speculation surrounding the Bulls and a potential trade involving the veteran forward Thaddeus Young at the 2020 trade deadline. Young had one of his least efficient seasons in the NBA in the campaign that was for the Bulls. A lot of that was due to how he was used by Boylen.

Young became pretty much exclusively a perimeter defender and three-point shooter at the outset of the regular season. And while his production and usage got a bit better as the season moved along, Young didn’t seem happy with his role most of the way. It also seemed like he was almost traded, and would’ve been the first Bulls player to go at the deadline.

In the season that was for the Bulls, Young played in 64 games (starting in 16 of them). He averaged 10.3 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.4 blocks. Young shot 44.8 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 58.3 percent from the free-throw line. He took a ton of corner threes this season, but also saw a near nine percent dip in his field goal shooting percentage.

If the Bulls are going to keep around one of the sources for Young’s woes in the season that was, then he might want out pretty fast. He’s got two years left on his current contract and is paid around $13 million for each season the rest of the way. That is a contract that is still workable on the trade market.
