3. Luke Kornet, Center
Entering the 2019-20 regular season, there actually was a decent level of excitement to see what the former New York Knicks center Luke Kornet would bring to the table for the Bulls. As one of the main three free agent signings for the Bulls last offseason, Kornet did bring an interesting set of production and skill set on a minimum deal.
But a lot of the concerns that plagued Kornet during the worst of times in his run with the Knicks came to be in the Windy City too. The 7-foot-2 and 240 pound former Vanderbilt Commodores big man had a lot of lingering injury issues this season, and couldn’t find much of any consistency in the season that was.
Kornet played in 36 games this season for the Bulls. He averaged 6.0 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks. Kornet shot 43.9 percent from the field, 28.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line. That amounted to him registering a career-low -1.1 box plus/minus rating, 0.1 value over replacement player rating, .091 win shares per 48 minutes, and a 53.9 true shooting percentage.
Since Kornet will have one year remaining on his current contract with the Bulls heading into the 2020-21 season, he could be someone that the team parts ways with or includes as part of a potential trade package if a change of scenery winds up suiting him. There’s a lot more that the Bulls could do with the frontcourt rotation than giving Kornet more playing time next season.
