Most the time that the one-time NBA All-Star selection and 6-foot-3 combo guard Jeff Hornacek faced up against Jordan and the Bulls, he split between the Phoenix Suns and Jazz. Hornacek had the misfortune of having to face Jordan and the Bulls multiple times out of the Western Conference in the NBA Finals.
And Hornacek obviously was never able to top Jordan in the NBA Finals, which had to hurt in the back-to-back losses in the late 1990’s as a member of the Jazz.
All in all, there were 32 times in which Jordan and Hornacek faced each other during the regular season and playoffs. And Hornacek actually did fairly well in terms of record against Jordan and the Bulls on the regular season side of those matchups. Jordan and the Bulls did hold the overall edge with a record of 12-8. But that’s not all that bad by most considerations.
In the playoffs, Hornaced held a record of 4-8 against Jordan. Those two times he faced Jordan and the Bulls in playoff series were in the NBA Finals with the Jazz in 1997 and 1998. In the playoffs, Jordan averaged 32.9 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and around 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, Jordan really exploded against Hornacek in the 20 games where they faced each other in the regular season. He averaged 34.9 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists, while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 87.3 percent from the free-throw line. There were six regular season games in which Jordan scored at least 40 points against Hornacek in the regular season.
