In recent years, the Chicago Bulls did find a few decent players that are former second round draft picks that they can learn from.
In the franchise history of the Chicago Bulls, using second round picks to their benefit isn’t something that the front office is accustomed to. All of the best Bulls players in franchise history were pretty much lottery picks. Even the best within the last decade were first round picks, despite not all coming in the lottery.
When most Bulls fans think of their best draft picks in the last 20 years, the ones that tend to come to mind are star small forward Jimmy Butler, point guard Derrick Rose, center Joakim Noah, shooting guard Ben Gordon, and power forward LaMarcus Aldridge (if they had not traded him on draft night 2006). It’s too hard to tell at this point if the likes of point guard Coby White, center Wendell Carter Jr., and power forward Lauri Markkanen will work out in the end.
But who on the current Bulls roster were great value picks and are contributed some level of positive impact? It’s worth noting where certain players on the current Bulls roster came from that can help the new look front office regime find direction in future drafts.
In the 2020 NBA Draft, the Bulls have a lot on the line. Hopefully they’ll have a high up lottery pick in this draft, and make the best use of their second round pick. Last year, the Bulls made good use of their second round pick by drafting former Arkansas Razorbacks rim running center Daniel Gafford.
With that in mind, who are the best second round picks on the last few Bulls rosters that they can learn from for future drafts?
