Former Chicago Bulls to root for in Orlando: Doug McDermott

Doug McDermott takes a lot of heat for his lackluster tenure in Chicago. The Bulls gave up two first-round picks to move up and get him in the 2014 NBA Draft, and he never amounted to anything more than a spotty role player. I’ll always blame some of Doug’s struggles on the coaching staff, though. He was mostly used as a spot-up shooter, and his offensive game is much more advanced than that.

Now, after bouncing around for a few seasons, McDermott seems to have found a home in Indiana. He’s coming off the bench and playing in a small role, still used primarily as a spot-up shooter, but he’s done a nice job of finding ways to contribute to a winning ball club. Despite his defensive deficiencies, he’s been crazy-efficient on offense, posting .491/.445/.827 shooting splits and a ridiculous 62.6 true shooting percentage.

I’ll never give up on Dougie McBuckets. I’ll die on McBuckets Island.
