The trade that happened between the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards at the 2019 deadline involving Otto Porter Jr. looks poor for both sides.
One of the biggest moves that the Chicago Bulls made since the beginning of the 2019 calendar year was pulling off a trade deal with the Washington Wizards to land veteran small forward Otto Porter Jr. At the 2019 trade deadline, the Bulls pulled off a deal to send two young power forwards, Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker, to the Wizards for that aforementioned return of Porter Jr.
This seemed like a good deal for the Bulls at the time, but OPJ hasn’t turned up much progress since he landed in the Windy City. He’s spent much of his tenure in the Windy City over the last 18 months or so injured. He was shut down for much of the 2019-20 regular season with a lower-body injury and couldn’t play out the 2018-19 campaign.
Much of the Bulls young core that centered around the rebuild was shut down for the latter portion of the 2018-19 season since their playoff hopes were all but dashed.
However, this trade deal that was one of the bigger in the Eastern Conference at the 2019 deadline looked like it would have a bigger impact at the time than it actually has up to this point. This worked out for both sides in a similar fashion to how the Jimmy Butler trade did with the Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves, which originally occurred back during the 2017 offseason.
There are still ramifications that are impactful for the Bulls and the Wizards up to this point. And it’s worth taking a dip back into what happened during the 2019 trade deadline.
Here’s a look back at how the OPJ trade turned out for both the Wizards and Bulls roughly 18 months later.
