Chicago Bulls: 3 draft targets worth trading up for
The star true freshman Georgia Bulldogs 6-foot-5 shooting guard and the former No. 1 high school prospect in the nation Anthony Edwards might be my overall favorite player in this class. He should have one of the highest ceilings right out of the gates to carry that same star potential into the NBA. That said, he still has a long way to go in his development on both ends of the floor.
There’s not many other pure bucket-getters in this draft class like Edwards is. If he can improve his shot selection and facilitating ability, then the offensive effectiveness of Edwards is going to skyrocket at the next level. He did settle for bad shots too often, and that should sound very familiar to Bulls fans.
If the Bulls were to take a flier out on Edwards, and trade to try and land him, it would clash with shooting guard Zach LaVine. They would likely have to pick one of two paths since both shooting guards are extremely high usage players. Both also don’t pass all that much given their high usage (higher than 30 percent usage rate at Georgia). And Edwards’ assist-to-turnover ratio sat around 1-1 last season.
However, the raw potential that Edwards brings to the table is why the Bulls should look into him if at all possible. He might have the highest ceiling of any player in this draft class. Improving shot selection and facilitating ability are realistic goals, as are his off-ball defense given his gifted physical tools.
Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks. He shot 40.2 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line.
