Best moments of the Chicago Bulls’ 2019-20 season: Zach LaVine has historic night in Charlotte

Not only was this the best moment of the season for the Chicago Bulls, but it was also one of the entire league’s best moments of the season. Any historic night is fun, but when it involves turning into hot lava from behind the 3-point line, it’s extra fun.

It was an otherwise ordinary Saturday night game in November for the Bulls and the Hornets. Both teams had losing records and were coming off of losses, trying desperately to get back on track.

LaVine had it going from the jump. You could tell right away it was going to be one of those nights for him. But it would’ve been impossible to predict just how hot he’d get.

Prior to that night, only two NBA players had ever made 13 three’s in a single game: Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. When Steph did it, he made 13 of his 17 deep balls. When Klay did it, he made 14 of 24. That November night in Charlotte, Zach hit Steph Curry-level in terms of a single game performance, connecting on 13 of his 17 3-point attempts.

When the only two players to have a better (or equally good) shooting night than you are the Splash Bros, you know you’ve done something right.

The coolest part about LaVine’s explosive night was that the team needed every single one of his threes to come away with a win. It’s not like the Bulls blew out the Hornets and LaVine was taking advantage of a dejected defense. LaVine’s last three dropped with 0.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Bulls took the lead by one. If he didn’t go scorched-earth mode on the Hornets, the Bulls would’ve lost. It was by far the best moment of the 2019-20 season for Chicago.
