After using an NBA draft lottery simulator, the Chicago Bulls wound up with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. In this scenario, who would they get?

Now that we know the Chicago Bulls’ 2019-20 season is officially over, we can start to look toward the future. The two biggest things the front office should be concerned with right now are free agency and the draft.

The Bulls have the seventh-worst record in the league, thus giving them the seventh-best odds at winning the lottery and getting the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft (7.5 percent). They have a 32 percent chance of getting a top-4 pick.

Instead of doing the mock draft with every team selecting where they have the best odds of being post-lottery, I used a lottery simulator courtesy of Tankathon.com to set my draft order. I ran the simulation eight times (because that’s how many times I’ve openly cried about the Bulls in the last month), and sat with the results of the eighth test. Here’s the draft order for this mock draft:

  1. Cleveland Cavaliers
  2. Atlanta Hawks
  3. Chicago Bulls
  4. Golden State Warriors
  5. Minnesota Timberwolves
  6. Detroit Pistons
  7. New York Knicks
  8. Charlotte Hornets
  9. Washington Wizards
  10. Phoenix Suns
  11. San Antonio Spurs
  12. Sacramento Kings
  13. New Orleans Pelicans
  14. Portland Trail Blazers

Let’s get started.

The Cleveland Cavaliers desperately need help. Ever since LeBron James darted for L.A., they’ve just been swimming in hopelessness. The biggest thing they need? Some star power.

Enter LaMelo Ball.

Ball has everything a middling team stuck in Cleveland, Ohio needs: A flashy style of play, All-NBA potential, and name recognition. He could be the guy to put Cleveland basketball back on the map.
