Bulls draft: Lottery players to avoid — Anthony Edwards

Let me preface this section by saying that I love Anthony Edwards and I think he’s going to be a fantastic NBA player. I just don’t love him for the Bulls.

Edwards had an up-and-down freshman season at Georgia. There were times when he looked like the best player in the nation and times where he looked like he wasn’t fully focused. He put up solid overall numbers but struggled mightily with his efficiency, scoring 19.1 points per game on rough .402/.294/.772 shooting splits.

His efficiency should improve at the next level. He won’t have to force things as much on offense and he’ll continue to grow, mature and learn the game. I would just rather have Zach LaVine as my two guard.

LaVine is still young and worth building around. If he can develop as a playmaker and as a defender, he could be a legitimate superstar in this league. I love the idea of grooming LaVine and Coby White as the backcourt of the Bulls’ future. There’s just no room for Edwards, another score-first guard, to play with White and LaVine.

As good as Edwards could be in a few years, it would make more sense for the Bulls to look elsewhere with their first-round draft pick in 2020.
