Bulls draft: Lottery players to avoid — Cole Anthony

Prior to his freshman season at North Carolina, Cole Anthony was my favorite 2020 NBA Draft prospect. He looked like a potential first overall draft pick. He had everything.

Now, after a rocky 22 games for the Tar Heels, Anthony’s stock as fallen quite a bit. He’ll probably still be a lottery pick, but instead of a top-5 guy, he’s looking like a late-lottery guy.

Anthony still has crazy-high potential as a lead guard in the NBA. He can score at will from all three levels of the court, and he’s a dynamic competitor. His raw numbers at UNC were pretty impressive, but if you dive a little deeper, there’s a lot of red flags. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and four assists per game. Those are the good numbers. The bad numbers: 38 percent shooting from the field, 34.8 percent shooting from deep, 3.5 turnovers per game.

If I was an NBA team in need of a lead guard, Anthony would be a good guy to take a risk on. But for the Bulls, Coby White should get all of the point guard minutes they have to offer. There’s no need to add Anthony to the mix.
