Although none of them stick out as potential star free agent signings, the new look Chicago Bulls front office could have a couple easier targets in mind.
The impending cycle of free agency for the Chicago Bulls this coming offseason will be an important test for the new look front office to begin reshaping the rebuild. The Bulls started to dramatically retool the front office in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic-induced NBA season hiatus that started more than two months ago.
Starting it all off last month, the Reinsdorfs made the hire of former Denver Nuggets general manager Arturas Karnisovas official as the Bulls next executive vice president of basketball operations. Karnisovas was hired to replace the former vice president of basketball operations John Paxson as the new lead voice in the front office.
After the hiring of Karnisovas was set in place, former Bulls general manager Gar Forman was replaced in the same position by the former Philadelphia 76ers vice president of player personnel Marc Eversley. Once GarPax was ousted and the new personnel started to get put into place in the Windy City, the discussions started as to where the new front office regime would re-direct the rebuild in the coming months.
It is likely to all start with how the likes of Karnisovas, Eversley, etc. would piece together the roster in the 2020 NBA Draft and next cycle of free agency. That would be the key to figuring out their planned direction for the roster.
Configuring the coaching staff is a crucial step they have to face in the near future too. But finding a plan for free agency and the direction of the coaching staff are steps that largely come hand in hand.
Here’s a look into the three possible must-sign free agent targets for the Bulls during the upcoming offseason.
