1. Thaddeus Young, Forward

The three names on this list all are on here for different reasons. While Valentine needs to prove himself at his next landing spot, and Felicio shouldn’t get another shot in the NBA in general, veteran forward Thaddeus Young would be ousted for a whole different reason. Young is still under contract for two more years after the 2019-20 season concludes.

However, Young was already sitting in the midst of trade discussions entering the 2020 deadline. The Bulls weren’t able to find a good trade partner for Young at the deadline earlier this year, but that doesn’t change the fact of why he was in those discussions in the first place. It would be very difficult for even a much-improved front office regime to figure out how Young and power forward Lauri Markkanen could co-exist in the same rotation.

The Bulls should still be able to get a good amount of trade value out of shopping Young. Most other teams are likely to still realize that Boylen just wasn’t using Young as well as a team could be by this point of his career. And that would give Markkanen the opportunity to get back to more of an unrivaled and patient development process as the Bulls change the look of their organization from the top-down.

In 64 games played this season, Young averaged 10.3 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from beyond the arc. He’s done well enough to prove he’s still a more than capable forward that could come off the bench in a sixth or seventh man role.
