Despite the public backlash, Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon should be viewed as the real MVP for creating a diss track about former Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade in the middle of a pandemic.
Let’s take a look at why Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon has valid reason to have beef with former Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade, even if it’s in the middle of a pandemic.
Gordon appears to put Wade on notice by releasing a diss track about him. The track features lyrics referencing the role Wade may have played in the NBA crowning Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. the champion of the All-Star Weekend’s slam dunk contest. Some believe Gordon was snubbed and that Wade is responsible for it. Funny enough, Gordon is seen drinking Wade’s wine in the official music video for the Wade diss track.
In case you missed it, take a look:
Since the track’s release, Gordon has tried to dismiss the idea of having beef with Wade. Is Gordon telling the truth? I think not.
Why, you ask?
NBA Twitter had mixed reactions to Gordon’s track. Some threw shade at Gordon for dissing Wade, and some believe it could be the start of bigger things moving forward.
Former NBA star Baron Davis took to Twitter, trying to egg on Wade to drop a diss track of his own in response to Gordon’s track.
Check it out:
Gordon seems to have liked Davis’ tweet enough to retweet it to his followers.
Wade issued his response to the diss track, suggesting that Gordon trademark “9/10.”
Take a look:
The tweet Wade shared in response to the diss track is very on brand for the three-time NBA champion.
For what it’s worth, I think Gordon should have stood firm behind his intentions to diss Wade. A lot of rappers have beef with other stars. Gordon was clearly snubbed by Wade for his performance in the NBA’s slam dunk contest. Gordon shouldn’t have let a little bit of public backlash keep him from making his intentions known.
For now, all I can do is take Gordon at his word that he doesn’t have beef with Wade. It’s all for show. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it could hurt his credibility in the rap game moving forward.
The good news is the Wade diss track will not be the last of Gordon. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Gordon speaks on his musical ambitions and how the coronavirus pandemic is providing him valuable time to build a rap career.
The diss track was a good move by Gordon, even if he was mainly trying to poke fun at Wade and showcase his ability to rap. Gordon likely benefitted from a bit of newfound attention garnered by dissing Wade.
The Wade diss track has generated more than 1.1 million views, to date.
