Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan (1991-92)

Not just the greatest season for a shooting guard in Bulls history, but likely the best season overall by any individual player in the history for the Windy City, came from all-time great Michael Jordan during the 1991-92 campaign. Jordan really pushed this Bulls team (that might have been one of his two or three worst supporting casts of the 1990’s dynasty years) to get their second title in a row.

In terms of overall per game stats, or advanced stats, the 1987-88 Jordan season had some edges over the 1991-92 campaign. But Jordan didn’t get his team as far, neither did he have as many great moments, from the 1987-88 season compared to what he had in 1991-92. That counts a lot in a list like this.

During this 1991-92 campaign, Jordan played in 80 regular season games (starting in every single one of them). He averaged 30.1 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.9 blocks, while shooting 52 percent from the field. In the playoffs, he would average 34.5 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 2.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks.

The advanced numbers were nothing short of tremendous for Jordan in this individual season too. He registered a 9.7 box plus/minus rating, 9.2 value over replacement player rating, .274 win shares per 48 minutes, and a 57.9 true shooting percentage. Mix together the great moments, regular season, and playoff number, and you get possibly Jordan’s greatest season in 1991-92.
