A prior trend that teams Eversley was a scout or associated in the front office with had in the NBA Draft dating back to his days with the Sixers and Washington Wizards was very guard heavy classes. Eversley was one of the executives heading up the scouting department for the Wizards in the early-to-mid 2010’s. Two of their higher draft picks (or only draft picks on certain years) were the likes of point guard Jerian Grant and combo guard Jordan Clarkson.

The Wizards got great value in a former second round pick and combo guard, Clarkson, with the 46th overall selection the 2014 NBA Draft. Grant was not such a great first round selection. Anyhow, the Bulls could still need help at the point guard position, depending on how the development of former North Carolina Tar Heels 6-foot-5 product Coby White plays out.

Drafting another former UNC point guard on the surface does sound like a bad move, but the Bulls can’t really afford to look in any other direction in terms of draft strategy right now then going with the best player available. If the Bulls wind up getting unlucky in the lottery and picking toward the back end, then going with freshman UNC point guard and former five-star Oak Hill Academy product Cole Anthony isn’t the worst move.

During his true freshman campaign in Chapel Hill, Anthony played in 22 games. In those 22 games he played in he averaged 18.5 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.3 steals, while shooting 38.0 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc. Anthony was a big part of any bit of the limited success that the Tar Heels found last season. If the Bulls front office wants to shift direction away from the likes of White and shooting guard Zach LaVine, then Anthony is a way to look in the draft.
